Importing Assets into Crisisworks

Please note - by default Asset Property imports have been disabled for all Crisisworks sites as we now import all Asset data via Vicmap. If you need to import custom properties, please contact Datalink Support

Please read the general Importing Data into Crisisworks instructions before proceeding with Importing Assets.

You can update existing assets or create new assets via the Crisisworks import feature.

Please note - you can import your Asset Contact data (or owner or ratepayer data) via a separate CSV import.  Please see Importing Asset Contacts into Crisisworks.

Importing Assets

Crisisworks supports importing of variety of assets in different formats (including Shapefile (SHP), TAB and CSV).

From the "What do you want to import?" drop down list on the Import Form, choose Assets or Asset Contacts and click Next. You will then be presented with some import options only associated with Assets or Asset Contacts. We have created some general import rules based on the main different types of Assets that are supported in Crisisworks.

For example, if you wish to import:

  • Properties, choose the "Asset Property General Import" option
  • Roads, choose the "Asset Road General Import" option (see below for field details)
  • infrastructure (such as bridges, culverts, footpaths etc), choose the "Asset Property General Infrastructure Import" option (see below for field details)

If you do not see the type of asset you want to import in the list, choose the "Asset_Property General Infrastructure" option. In your input data you can set the type field to "Asset_Other" for each asset.

The Import File

To be compatible with the "Asset General Import" rules, we have specified field headings that you must have in your input data.  To view a list of fields for each import type, click on the "View what field mappings are required in your import data." link located next to the "What do you want to import" select box on the import form.

This will display all of the enabled import types for your Crisisworks site and each of the field mappings required in your input data.

In your input data, to remove data from a field, type the value  "[NULL]" (without the quotes) into the cell. If this value is found, it will remove the contents of the field. You cannot clear contents of a required field.

Shapefile importing

The Asset import feature supports ZIP to be uploaded into the Import File field. For SHP and TAB files, ensure you upload this as a ZIP file containing the other associated files needed. You cannot upload a SHP or TAB file directly into the Import File field, it must be contained within a ZIP file with its associated files.

Projection

Crisisworks expects asset data in SHP or TAB files with the GDA2020 (EPSG:7844) projection, but can also accept GDA94 (EPSG:3283) or WGS84 "Web Mercator" (EPSG:3857).

These will need to be compressed into a ZIP file for importing into Crisisworks

Test Only

It is strongly encouraged to tick the Test Only option before you import your Assets to see if any errors are generated before actually doing a full import of your asset data. The Test Only option will display any error or success messages that would happen on a normal import but it will not import any assets. Once the Test Only option has no error messages you can then untick the Test Only checkbox and run your asset import.

Enter an optional comment for the Audit log and click the Import button to begin importing your Assets.

Asset Road General Import

This is used for importing Road Assets into Crisisworks.
It it preferred to import each road segment with a meaningful name to help users that select the asset to work with, e.g: long road name, segment 6 (333m – 555m)
If possible have the whole road as an extra asset, to be used for general emergency management puposes
